Perhaps, Facebook is a place where a lot of people promote their online business.

Over the years, you may have had more than a few friends who have had their Facebook accounts hacked. One of the easiest signs of this is when a Facebook friend sends you a random message with suspicious language and a link attached. Unfortunately, it can be incredibly easy for hackers to steal your Facebook login information — especially if your account isn’t secure.

Why Should I Secure my Facebook Account?

If you own a good Facebook page or business group page, you can make money through the page or group. So anyone who knows that you are the owner of the page can try to hack your Facebook account. If any Facebook hacker hacks your account successfully he/she may remove you from the ownership of the page and can become the owner. Even when you own just a personal Facebook account, you also need to secure it, because a hacker with full access to your account can cause you a lot of embarrassment.

It’s important to secure your Facebook account because your account stores a lot of sensitive, personal information about you. Think about it: you may have your full name listed, in addition to your contact information (phone number and email accounts), social media accounts, your family members, your employment and education history, your photos, and your interests, among others. That’s all information that a hacker could use against you.

Luckily, there are several steps you can take to secure your Facebook account.

How to Secure Your Facebook Account From Hackers

Well, it is not difficult to secure your Facebook account. You just have to take care of a few things which are quite simple and everyone knows these things, but we usually do not pay enough attention to them.

#1 – Use a Strong Password

Many hackers, don’t actually hack your Facebook account. In fact, they use trial and error method to find your password. The first thing you should do is to use a strong password and make sure that your password is not easy to guess.

Some people choose name of their spouse, date of birth, their phone number, or names of their kids as their password. Also, do not use default passwords, as they are easily cracked. Some default passwords include password, password123, 1234, admin, and guest, among others. These things are too obvious to guess and anyone who knows a little about you can guess your password and then take control of your account. So you should make sure that your password should be difficult to guess and it should have mixed case letters, numbers and special characters.

For example, if your name is John, and you want to set a strong password using your name, you must have to mix things up like: ‘Jo@Hn1$2’.

Notice that this password has your name, some letters are small while the others are capital. And also, contain numbers and special characters. Now this password is harder to guess for a hacker even if he knew your data.

#2 – Check the Website Address Before You Login

Phishing is the widely used method by hackers to hack the Facebook accounts of their victims. In this method, the attacker makes a web page that looks exactly like Facebook’s official page. The attacker will trick you to enter your password and email address to log in to that page.

Let’s take an example; you may receive a message in your Facebook inbox asking you to like their Facebook page and to do so, just click on the link below and log in to your Facebook account. There is a good chance that you could want to try to login to your Facebook account using the link provided by the attacker. When you do this you might get an error message meanwhile, your Facebook username and password you used to login is now in the possession of the hacker.

You can still login as normal later on your Facebook account without noticing anything unusual. Of course, the hacker can choose to lock you out of your account by changing the password. So make sure that you are providing your email and password only on the official Facebook page. If you see strange Web address instead of like these: https://www.facebook.com or https://web.facebook.com, don’t login on that page.

#3 – Enable Two-Factor Authentication

The best thing you should do is to add an extra security layer to your Facebook account. When you do this, whenever anybody (or a hacker) tries to login with your Username and Password, you will receive an OTP code on your cell phone and the person cannot continue until he or she enter the OTP code sent to your phone.  To do this, navigate to the Settings and click on Security and Login and then Select Use Two Factor Authentication from the options. You should select the option to receive a security code on your registered mobile number whenever someone tries to login to your Facebook account from an unauthorized device.

This is the best option as even if the hacker hacks your Facebook account and get your password, he will not be able to login because he has to enter the code which you get on your mobile.

#4 – Change Your Password

One of the most common ways for a hacker to gain access to your account is by stealing your login information. As with your other online accounts, be sure to change your Facebook password regularly — at least twice per year. Changing your password more frequently could ultimately make your account more secure. Create strong passwords, and don’t reuse old passwords or passwords from other accounts.
